Air Conditioners Equipment uses high voltage.
40 volts sounds small when compared to the 120 volts in your wall outlet but a voltage over 40 volts is considered potentially dangerous. It is not the voltage that kills but the path the current takes through the body. Higher voltages lower the resistance of the body. Electricity needs to be respected. Familiarity and experience can breed a lacks a daisical attitue when working with high voltage. You can't let this happen. Remember Safety First!!! .

Spinning fan blades are very dangerous. They may not look like they are spinning fast but they can cut off fingers or cut deep gashes in your flesh.Advice and Guidelines
- Don't give current a path. Remove all jewelry, watches, necklaces or other metal objects before working on air conditioning equipment. Metal is a great conductor. Use one hand at a time and don't rest the other on other objects or surfaces. Make sure you are standing on a dry surface and not in standing water. Wear rubber sole shoes. Use a rubber matt to stand on if you have one.
- Verify the system is grounded.
- Prove to yourself the voltage is turned off after you pull the disconnect, flip the breaker or unplug the system. Use a voltage indicator to verify no voltage after shut off. Make sure it will not be inadvertantly turned back on by someone else while you are working on it. Discharge capacitors before working a system. This can be done by short the capacitor terminals and then shorting the terminals to ground.
- Don't trust wire insulation. Air conditioners work in extreme conditions. Insulation integrity degrades over time in these conditions.
- Don't work on equipment while it is running. Don't stick you hands in near fan blades.
